Todd Gloria today announced he will seek re-election as San Diego City Councilman, representing the LGBT neighborhoods of District 3.

“Today, I officially launched my reelection campaign,” Gloria said on his Facebook page. Election regulations prohibit any campaigning before today, one year before the June 5, 2012 election.

An openly gay man, Gloria represents the communities of Balboa Park, City Heights, Golden Hill, Hillcrest, Kensington, Normal Heights, North Park, South Park, Talmadge and University Heights. He is the third consecutive member of the LBGT community to serve District 3, following Christine Kehoe (who is now a State Senator) and Toni Atkins (who is now a State Assemblywoman).

“I am proud of the work we have done together in my first term on the City Council and look forward to making District 3 an even better place for our citizens,” Gloria wrote on his website, toddgloria.com. “Although the election is still almost a year away, I will be working hard to win this election.  My most important goal will continue to be providing District 3 with the high level of service you deserve!”

Gloria’s campaign is hosting a Campaign Kick-off Reception, June 29. For more information, log on to toddgloria.com

  1. Gloria does NOT represent Golden Hill: That is David Alvarez’s district.
Unfortunately, Gloria doesn’t represent South Park much, either. Lip service.

    • exactly Dot…thats why he wants the granny flat deal for South Park which is just a nicer way of saying he wants to re-zone SouthPark for condos because the language of the bill is written so that the owner aka developer can build both AT THE SAME TIME.

  2. Technically, Todd Gloria does represent a portion of Golden Hills. His office confirmed this by stating in an email: “The Greater Golden Hill community planning group is split up in two council districts for the time being. Everything North of A Street is in Council District 3. This may change with redistricting however at this point it is shared by both Councilmembers.”

  3. Todd represents himself and his donors not the people. I love how you guys think that because someone is “openly gay” they are a great candidate, as in your glowing endorsement of Dumanis for mayor. Both Dumanis and Gloria are products of the sleazy “Victory Fund” which when you actually look at it is a conglomeration of gay politicians and developers. Todd wants to start charging us to park at the beach so he can keep giving away the 5 billion dollars a year to redevelopment agencies.

    • Christine, San Diego LGBT Weekly has not endorsed Bonnies Dumanis for mayor, nor have we endorsed Todd Gloria for City Council. Opinions have been expressed in letters and commentaries, which reflect the view of those individual writers; the newspaper has never announced any endorsement of any candidate in any race.

  4. well you certainly present a long and glowing “guest commentary” on why we should vote for Dumanis…. (http://lgbtweekly.com/2011/06/09/supporting-bonnie-dumanis) … and the commentary is from the mayors daughter. Dumanis is the only reason Sanders isnt in prison. Remember the Kessler case? The FBI gave her tons of documents connecting the mayor to the Mannino crime family and Dumanis refused to prosecute saying the case was baselss despite their recommendations. Sanders needs Dumanis to continue to cover his crimes or he just may end up getting arrested 1 of these days….
