San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders announced today that he is throwing his support behind openly lesbian District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis for the upcoming mayoral election, set for June 2012.

The current mayor recorded a YouTube video in which he endorses Dumanis as his successor, stating that the DA “has incredible integrity, does the right thing for the right reasons and she’s been a public servant for her entire career.”

NBC San Diego reports that Dumanis, who served previously as a Superior Court Judge and has been a San Diego resident for the past 37 years, also received public endorsement from former 2012 contender City Councilman Kevin Faulconer, who left the race in order to support Dumanis’s bid for office.
