Union Bank has teamed up with KPBS to recognize cultural diversity by launching several exciting new videos saluting San Diego’s ‘Local Heroes’ in celebration of LGBT Pride Month.

The most recent video features local hero Nicole Murray-Ramirez, a gay rights activist who has been a champion for the Latino gay community for over 45 years. Murray-Ramirez describes the struggle for gay equality to be the civil rights movement of the 21st century, and notes the unfortunate fact that America’s gay community is the only group that does not yet have equal rights.

Dr. Delores Jacobs, Chief Executive Officers of the San Diego LGBT Community Center, has also been recognized as a local hero. Her valiant work at the Center helps connect LGBT community members with each other, as well as to the greater San Diego area.

The Union Bank and KPBS-produced video is designed to honor local heroes like Murray-Ramirez and foster hope for greater equality for LGBT citizens.

Watch both videos online at KPBS.org.
