Lesbian crowned Homecoming King at San Diego’s Patrick Henry High School

Patrick Henry High School in Del Cerro has elected a lesbian student as its Homecoming King, San Diego News10 reports.

“They were chanting my name and it was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had,” said newly-crowned Homecoming King Rebecca Arellano.

Hailey Adams, Arellano’s girlfriend of two years, ran for Patrick Henry High School Homecoming Queen.

Many students at the school were elated at the news that an LGBT student was recognized and elected Homecoming King, one of the highest honors at any given high school.

“Patrick Henry High School has always been a little ahead of the curve, but I could not imagine this happening [in the past],” said one student. “I think it’s incredible these two ladies can go to homecoming and enjoy each other and be happy.”

Arellano added: “Another student that’s also a lesbian said, ‘We won’ which is what I wanted. I love Patrick Henry for supporting me…”

Adams will find out if she has won Homecoming Queen at the Homecoming dance this weekend.
