Famous V-J photo reincarnated in Navy gay kiss

Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta and her girlfriend Petty Officer 3rd Class Citlalic Snell, share a private moment in a snapshot of their homecoming, reincarnating the classic Navy image from Times Square, 1945, depicting a soldier kissing a nurse in wake of Victory Over Japan.

Snell told the Associated Press that she felt “nervous” over the photo’s popularly.

The original photo snapped by Alfred Eisenstaedt is of two strangers. Eisenstaedt explains that every sailor “running along the street grabbing any and every girl in sight” when the photo was taken. Fast forward 66 years: The photo snapped in 2011 is a tender reminder to servicemembers across the United States that sexual orientation transcends military bounds and that love is, truly, limitless.
