Kelly Clarkson endorses Ron Paul for presidentBreaking News, Top Highlights Thursday, December 29th, 2011
Miss Independent pop singer Kelly Clarkson announced Thursday that she endorses republican hopeful Ron Paul for president, despite the recent press Paul has garnered for anti-gay and racist comments arising from newsletters published in his name between 1980 and 1990.
“I love Ron Paul,” Clarkson posted. “I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he’s got my vote.”
While many pro-Paul followers celebrated Clarkson’s nomination, others naysayers pointed to recent press alleging that Paul published newsletters using racist and anti-gay language.
“I am really sorry if I have offended anyone,” she wrote. “Obviously that was not my intent. I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women’s rights, men’s rights, white/black/purple/orange rights. I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government and letting the people (all of us) make the decisions and mold our country. That is all. Out of all of the Republican nominees, he’s my favorite.”
Clarkson did not withdrawal the endorsement, adding she’d “never heard that he’s a racist,” and “never seen or heard Ron Paul say anything against gay people” on her Twitter account.
On whether or not Paul will win in 2012, Clarkson added, “Too bad he probably won’t.”
