Family Equality Council responds to White House Easter Egg Roll inviteBreaking News Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012
In 2009, President Obama issued the first official invitation to LGBT families to attend the historic White House Easter Egg Roll; and today, the Family Equality Council announced its acceptance of the president’s invitation to this year’s 134th Annual event on behalf of the nation’s LGBT parents and their children.
The Family Equality Council first took part in the White House Easter Egg Roll back in 2006, encouraging more than 100 families to pursue admission to the event in an effort to engage LGBT families in this iconic American tradition. This year, says Family Equality Council Executive Director Jennifer Chrisler, the group is “thrilled” to take part in the event once again – especially in light of the organization’s landmark 30th anniversary.
Chrisler stated that the group is eager to commemorate “our three decade long effort to create a world where our families and all American families are respected and celebrated.” At a time when many political candidates and spokespersons fail to support LGBT individuals and families, Chrisler added, the Obama administration “has made it known that LGBT parents and their children are intricately woven into the rich fabric of America families.”
The 134th Annual White House Easter Egg Roll will be held on April 9, 2012.
