Junior Seau found dead; police investigation underway
Breaking News, Top Highlights Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012Former San Diego Chargers star and community legend Junior Seau was found dead Wednesday in his Oceanside home. The U-T reports that Seau died from “an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” and police are currently investigating his death as a suicide. Seau was 43.
According to the U-T, Seau’s girlfriend called the police at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday after returning home from the gym and finding Seau in the bedroom with a gunshot wound to his chest. Junior Seau was pronounced dead by police, and the Medical Examiner’s Office expects his autopsy to be completed by Thursday.
Dean Spanos, President of the Chargers organization, released a statement in which he said, “We all lost a friend today.” He spoke of Junior Seau as an “icon” of the San Diego community, someone who “transcended” the game of football and represented so much more to the local people.
