HRC urges support for Obama as right-wing opens conservative barrage

San Diego LGBT newspaper

HRC pushes for Obama campaign support.

In response to President Obama’s historic announcement in favor of marriage equality, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has released a letter urging supporters to back Obama in the face of conservative attackers.

According to the letter, right-wing antagonists to marriage equality say that, by defending LGBT civil rights, President Obama “just handed the election to Mitt Romney.” In response, HRC asks that advocates help maintain the momentum of yesterday’s announcement by donating to the president’s re-election campaign.

The letter reads, “You and I know that our nation is on a path to equality, and the President is leading us in that direction. But it won’t happen on its own – certainly not when the far right attacks us and our families at every turn.”
