Pride board member responds to complaints about ‘drug message’

The board of directors of San Diego Pride has issued an apology following much adieu by Facebook users and people throughout the San Diego LGBT community, some of whom complained that Pride San Diego was “advocating drug use” because a clothing advertisement placed near the front of this year’s San Diego Pride Souvenir Guide featured a model wearing a t-shirt that appears to bare a pro-drug message.

The organization responded:

After the 2012 San Diego Pride Souvenir Guide was published and distributed earlier this week, it was brought to our attention that an apparel company’s advertisement featuring seven t-shirts includes content on one of the shirts referring to drugs. We agree that this is inappropriate content for our Pride Guide, and we regret that we did not notice it during the production of the publication. We apologize.

To prevent this from happening again, Pride will tighten its review process of Pride Guide content. We will also draft a policy on content that is inappropriate for the Pride Guide. Furthermore, Pride will donate the money we received for this advertisement to a local drug treatment program. We are grateful to the many people involved in producing the Pride Guide and the ongoing Pride celebrations, and we hope the community will accept our apology for this oversight and our resolve to prevent it from occurring again.

OMG, this was not my response, I just shared it on facebook! This is from the Board of Directors as a whole. I didn’t write this.

But I do agree with the statement.
