HRC highlights President Obama’s commitment to equality with banner on national headquarters

WASHINGTON – The Human Rights Campaign, has unveiled a new banner on its national headquarters in Washington, D.C., to commemorate President Obama’s historic inclusion of LGBT equality in his second inaugural address. In his speech last month, the President cited Stonewall and went on to say that “Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law – for surely if we are created equal, then the love we commit to one another must be equal as well.”

HRC President Chad Griffin said of the banner:

“President Obama made a historic commitment to equality in his inaugural address – the first time a President touched on LGBT issues so directly in a major address to the nation. We hope that displaying his inspiring words on our building can play a symbolic role in amplifying his message of fairness and equality under the law for all.

Despite the many victories we’ve achieved recently, we cannot rest until the President’s words are a reality for every single LGBT American, regardless of where they live. This is a powerful visual reminder of why we must continue pouring nothing short of our best into the fight for equality day in and day out.”
