San Diego Pride to host LGBTQ Youth Art Show this Saturday

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – San Diego LGBT Pride, in partner with Art of Pride and The Trevor Project, will be hosting their first LGBTQ+ youth art show this Saturday. We Are Here: Reflections of LGBTQ Lives is an art show hosted by San Diego Pride youth volunteers as an opportunity for young people in our community to share their stories.

“Our youth programs have grown over the years, and we’re excited to offer this new space for our young people to express themselves and share their talents with the community,” said Josh Coyne, San Diego LGBT Pride Youth Programs Coordinator. “It is our hope that young artists will use their talents to advocate for positive social change.”

The San Diego LGBT Pride office, located at 3620 30th St., San Diego, CA 92104, will be opening its doors on Saturday, March 11th, from 6pm to 8pm.

“The Art Show is an expression of our lives and how our identities affect our experiences,” said Edward Estrada, 17-year-old SCPA student and Pride youth volunteer. “We are a culmination of our intersections, bound together by our LGBTQ identities and ready to express ourselves to the greater community.”

“The beauty of art is that it can give us a glimpse into the raw and authentic reality of these young LGBTQ lives,” said Fernando Lopez, San Diego Pride’s Director of Operations. “We have received 17 submissions from 14 schools across the region. The art has been compelling, inspiring, and sometimes even painful to see.”

Art has been submitted by students from the following fourteen schools: Altus Charter School, The Bishop’s School, Cajon Valley Middle School, Canyon Crest Academy, Cathedral Catholic High School, La Jolla High School, Lewis Middle School, Morse High School, Roosevelt Middle School, School of Creative and Performing Arts, Scripps Ranch High School, The School for Entrepreneurship and Technology, Steele Canyon High School and Valhalla High School.

  1. Art of Pride is so pleased to partner with Pride and the young students to showcase their work. This is the 18th year Art of Pride has presented the work of emerging and established LGBTQ artists and their allies. And it keeps getting better!
