San Diego LGBT Pride to march in 38th annual San Diego MLK Parade this SundayAround the City, Online Only, Top Highlights Thursday, January 11th, 2018
SAN DIEGO – San Diego Pride will participate in the San Diego MLK Parade, one of the largest celebrations of its kind in the United States, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The 38th annual parade is Sunday, January 14 and will march between Harbor Drive and Embarcadero. The parade will start at the San Diego County Admin Building on Harbor Drive at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome to march with Pride, which will meet at the site at 1:30 p.m.
This year Pride has partnered with San Diego Black LGBTQ Coalition, San Diego Original Black Panthers and DETOUR: Depositing Empowerment Through Outreach and Urban Redevelopment. District 3 City Councilmember Chris Ward will also be walking with San Diego Pride. If you are interested in marching with San Diego Pride, join the Facebook event here.
“Each year, Martin Luther King Jr. Day calls us to recommit ourselves to putting inclusion and service at the center of our civic lives,” said San Diego City Council member Chris Ward. “It’s my honor to stand with San Diego Pride every day to make our community a welcoming and supportive place for San Diegans.”
The parade is coordinated by the Zeta Sigma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the oldest African American fraternity in America, founded in 1906 at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York; Dr. King was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha.
